Iowa Trails Summit
About this Event

The Iowa Trails Summit has moved online for 2020! Three webinars will bring together trailblazers from across Iowa once a month, September through November, to learn, connect and collaborate from afar. Join us for one webinar or register for whole series and be entered into a raffle for a 2021 Trail Summit Registration. Professional and volunteer trail advocates alike are welcome.

September 9 | Finding Money for Your Trail
You’ve got your vision for the perfect trail or maybe you have already built it. Either way, there’s always a need for funding. Learn from three panelists well-versed in public and private trail funding. Panelists will include representatives from State and Federal Recreational Trail program, Iowa’s most popular funding source, regional planning agencies who administer access to a more localized pool of dollars, and staff from one of Iowa’s leading foundations who will share guidance for working with major donors, private foundations and corporations.
Speakers:

Scott Flagg, Program manager for Federal and State Recreation Trails Grant Program, IDOT
Matthew Henkes, Vice PResident fo Grants and Initiatives, Iowa West Foundation
Zach James, Assistant Director, Iowa Regional Planning Committee

October 21 | Promoting Trail Use Post Pandemic
If the COVID 19 pandemic has taught us anything, it’s the importance of access to trails, parks and other outdoor areas. Communities across Iowa have seen the number of users of their outdoor spaces skyrocket this spring and summer. It’s up to the trails community to make sure they find their way back next year, and to advocate for policies, programs and funds that support trails in Iowa. Speakers TBA.

November 18 | The Future of Iowa Trails
Iowa is the World Capital of Trails. We are the center of the Great American Rail Trail, American Discovery Trail, and the Mississippi River Trail. We’ve seen strong public support for broad funding initiatives to support the development and management of our growing trail system. So, what’s next? Speakers TBA.

All webinars will be held via zoom from 12-1:30 p.m. CST. Registration is required. Space is limited.

This event is hosted by Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, Golden Hills RC&D and Trees Forever
